In Act 3 of the play, Julius Caesar, Caesar is assassinated by the conspirators, including his “best friend,” Brutus. After Caesar’s death, Brutus gives a funeral speech to the Roman people. Mark Antony also asks to give a speech at Caesar’s funeral. Both men have a goal—Brutus wants to convince them that Caesar deserved to die, but Antony wants to convince them that Caesar did not deserve to die. Both men do a good job convincing the Roman people, but ultimately, Antony does a better job using ethos, pathos, and logos.
